Stuart grew up in Dundee, Scotland and started learning to play the pipes at the age of 11. He was taught by Stewart Clarke and Anne Spalding.

Stuart enjoyed success on the junior solo circuit during his teenage years and learnt pipe band craft as a member of Arbroath RBLS Pipe Band.

At the age of 17 Stuart went to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now known as the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) and spent 4 years completing a BA (Hons) in Scottish Music (Piping).

Stuart was a founder member of the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland and has also played with David Urquhart Travel Pipes and Drums, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Pipe Band and MacKenzie Caledonian Pipe Band.

Having taken a break from the pipe band scene between 2012 and 2015, Stuart is looking forward to playing with Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band and taking another step in his piping career.
