Ryan makes his home in Coventry, Connecticut in the Northeastern United States.  A native New Englander, he was initially taught drumming by his father, Norman Jones, joining a local juvenile band.  Ryan was then taught by Al Alexander, himself a student of Gene Krupa and Alex Duthart among others, and later took lessons and workshops with Reid Maxwell.  Reid served as a mentor to the Manchester Pipe Band in the late 1990s and early 2000s while Ryan was a member of the corps.  He took a break from drumming during his university studies, and returned to the band to play with Wes Cole and Alex Robertson, where the drum corps' efforts culminated in a first place in drumming at the 2016 North American Championships.  Ryan practices locally with friend and fellow snare drummer Alex Robertson, and is looking forward to traveling with the band and learning from Gary and other members of the corps.

Away from drumming, Ryan works as a school teacher and coach, and holds graduate degrees in Curriculum and Instruction, and School Leadership.  Ryan is engaged to Jennifer and will be married in December of 2016.
