Melinda began tenor drumming with the Shadle Park High School Highlanders Pipe Band in Spokane, WA.  While playing with her high school pipe band, she was also actively involved as a bass drummer for the marching band and as a cellist for the school's orchestra and Spokane Youth Symphony. Outside of school she played tenor with the Angus Scot Pipe Band. Upon graduation, she moved to Seattle, WA to attend the University of Washington.

Shortly after arriving in Seattle, she joined the Keith Highlanders Pipe Band, Grade 4 and Grade 3. She competed in the World Pipeband Championships with them in 2002 and 2006. When their Grade 3 band folded, she went on to join Portland Metro Pipe Band Grade 2 of Portland, OR after a short break while finishing graduate school. She continued to play several seasons with Portland Metro, and competed in the WPBC in 2012 and 2014. For the 2016 season she joined the Rocky Mountain Pipe Band of Calgary, Alberta and competed with them at the North American Pipe Band Championships in July 2016.

She is one of the newest members of the tenor corps.

Back home in Seattle, Melinda enjoys teaching bass and tenor to the King County Fire Fighters Pipes and Drums and regularly attends events and annual memorials with them. She is actively involved with a local food bank and Chamber of Commerce through her work. Professionally she is a Mortgage Loan Originator and Branch Manager with a Seattle-based bank. She's currently back in school pursuing a third degree, but if she's not at work or in class, you can find her exploring breweries, traveling with friends, baking or hanging out with family.
