Gary Corkin Joins DTSPB as Leading Drummer
The Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band are delighted to announce the appointment of Gary Corkin to the lead drummer position.Gary brings with him a winning history as Leading Drummer of the Royal Ulster Constabulary Pipe Band. Under Gary’s leadership as Lead Drummer, they won 17 Grade 1 drum corps championship titles, including “The Sash” at the World Championships.
Dowco Triumph Street have a team of pipers based in the UK, currently led by Pipe Corporal Gary Nimmo. Corkin and Nimmo will be working together in the UK, with Corkin making regular trips across the Atlantic to Vancouver, with Pipe Major David Hilder travelling the opposite direction.
In a similar fashion to Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Corps, Corkin will be ably assisted in Vancouver by Robert Holland. Robert is also a former member of Gary’s RUC corps playing flank and assisting in writing the RUC scores.
Cameron Reid has been asked to stay on in the leadership team along with all current members of the drum corps to guide the upcoming concert material.
Also confirmed joining the side corps is Stephen Paynter, who is emigrating to Vancouver from Northern Ireland, after a very successful spell with St Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band.
Corkin Adds, “After winning 17 Grade 1 major drumming titles and the World Championships with the RUC Drummers, I am hoping with hard work and dedication to add to that achievement. Any side drummers interested in more information are asked to contact me directly”
Dowco Triumph Street have already laid out their plans for the 2017 season, after accepting the invitation to play at the “Pre Season” Concert in Aberdeen, Scotland, and will attend the British Championships in Paisley as well as the World Championships on Glasgow
