David was born in Cookstown in Northern Ireland, and now lives in Coleraine where he is the minister of Hazelbank Presbyterian Church. He started drumming competitively with Tullylagan pipe band in 1971 in Grade Three eventually after a number of years becoming Leading drummer winning the World title as a corps in 1985.

He has played with many bands such as Eden, Syerla, and the Graham Memorial before joining up with Gary Corkin in the RUC in 1988 and played there for 12 years winning many major titles in Grade one. Once he left the RUC, he went back to Tullylagan as LD to join up with his two sons Stephen and Michael who played in the corps with him. He then went to Finvoy in grade 2 as Leading Drummer until the band failed to get out.

David went back to grade one with Australia Highlanders before taking over as leading drummer of grade two Aughintober and then on to Bleary and District. He said It was amazing to win the grade 2 world title with his son’s in the corps in 2015. The band was promoted to grade one in 2016 and he retired from leading Drummer at the end of that season.

“Gary Corkin approached me to come along to Triumph Street and I have enjoyed playing with the band. I have won many titles as a drummer with all the bands I have played in but the best thing about playing in pipe bands is the many many people I have met over 37 years, many I can call my friend”
